American Canyon Trail The prettiest trail in ASRA (Auburn State Recreation Area) Duration: 4-5 hours Distance : ~8 miles Difficulty: Intermediate due to the fairly steep 3 mile climb a t the end Dogs okay Contact: Shannon B. (916) 224-9885 Bring lunch, snac ks, plenty of water, waterproof shoes, sunblock, blister kit, etc. Hee d mountain lion, poison oak, and tick warnings. (long pants recommended) Description: From the "third gate" trailhead we will continue straight ont o the Wendell T. Robie trail and continue to the Barbara Schooner Memorial. We'll continue on the WTR trail to the Maine Bar trail and follow it down to where it connects with the American Canyon trail near the end of the Qua rry trail. We will climb up the lush American Canyon trail, with several c reek crossings, back to the cars. Directions to American Canyon Trail - T hird Gate From the stop sign in Cool, turn left onto CA 193 toward Georget own. Drive 5.3 miles, then turn left onto Sweetwater Trail on the north s ide (left), which is opposite of Pilgrim Court on the south. Trailhead i s on the right of the street, before the gates to Auburn Lake Trails. Par king at the trailhead is limited, but you can park along the shoulder. P rice: $3 per person per hour for gas, so about $5 per person to your carpo ol driver.
